Minds + Machines, through its collaboration with CoCCA, works on an open-source + subscription model.
This means that on our hosted platform, installed on our servers, we maintain and upgrade the Espresso code, and then periodically we return these improvements to CoCCA, who adds it to the codebase, which is available for download. You pay a subscription (annual fee) to us, based on the number of domain names in your TLD, and we maintain the latest best version of the software on our servers and provide free customer service to you.
If you opt for local installation, installed on your servers, we provide you with the code and upgrades, which we can help you install if you need assistance.
Because open-source software is improved not just by us, but by whomever can code a good idea or a fix, it’s cheaper, more stable, gets improved faster, and you’re not locked in to a proprietary solution.
